The Highway Division of the Public Works Department has scheduled delivery of treated sand to all Amherst homes beginning on Monday, December 13, 2010.
On Monday, December 13th, delivery will be made on Main St., Pelham Rd., Amity St., and all streets north of the east-west line. This includes the Lincoln Avenue, North Amherst, East Pleasant and High, Gray and North Whitney Street areas. If delivery is not completed on Monday, trucks will finish the routes on Tuesday, December 14th.
Delivery south of Amity Street, Main St. and Pelham Rd. will be made on Wednesday, December 15th. This area includes all of Echo Hill, Orchard Valley and the entire South Amherst area. If delivery is not completed on Wednesday, trucks will finish the routes on Thursday, December 16th.
Residents must place their containers at the curbside by 7:00 A.M.
Containers should be pails or wooden boxes of sturdy construction. Cardboard cartons should not be used. The size of the containers depends on each property owner, but large units become quite heavy after they are loaded with sand.
Return trips will not be made to any area to fill containers which were not at the curbside at the designated time.
All of the sand which will be delivered has been treated with salt at five (5) parts sand to one (1) part salt ratio.
If a snow storm occurs on the day listed for delivery in a designated area, the sand will be delivered on the next day, weather permitting.
Sand is also available at the Public Works Department at 586 South Pleasant Street and on Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday 8AM–2PM at the Transfer Station on Belchertown Road.
The sand is not available in pickup truck or van load amounts. All sand shall be loaded into containers.
