[ARCHIVED] Commencement Season Comes to the Amherst Area

Graduation cap and tassle rests on several leather bound books.

As the academic year ends, we anticipate increased traffic Memorial Day weekend as commencement ceremonies for Amherst College and the University of Massachusetts take place in the town. These ceremonies are a time of celebration for the graduates and their families. We recognize and applaud our area graduates and their respective families during graduation ceremonies conducted at each campus.

Our downtown businesses are open and welcome your business! There are many new restaurants, and some tried-and-true establishments that you definitely want to visit while in Amherst.

We encourage everyone to be mindful of increased traffic around the ceremony locations and to plan accordingly for any travel arrangements. In some cases, during these events, there may be select detours or detail officers directing traffic. Please adhere to any posted signage and traffic instructions from officers.  Click here to read more about select local road closures in and around the UMass Amherst campus due to student move-out and Commencement activities Wednesday, May 24 through Saturday, May 27.

Upcoming Commencement Ceremony Dates:

We want to congratulate all the students at Hampshire College, Mt. Holyoke College, and Smith College who graduated last weekend and those at UMass Amherst and Amherst College who will do so this week. We thank you for having called Amherst and the Pioneer Valley your home during your academic journeys. This is a significant achievement, and we are proud of all that you have accomplished. We wish you all the best as you move forward and embark on new adventures and opportunities.

Good luck in all your future endeavors!
