[ARCHIVED] Reminder! Time to Renew Your Dog Licenses in Amherst

Don’t forget to license your dog for the 2023 yea!. Dog licenses expire on March 31st of each year.  State law requires all dogs age six months or older to be licensed and wearing a tag (MGL c. 140, s. 137).  License fees are as follows: spayed/neutered dogs $5.00; intact male/female dogs $15.00.  Current rabies certificates for all dogs must also be presented at the time of licensing.  Please note that the last day to license your dog without incurring a penalty/late fee is May 31, 2023.  A $30.00 late fee will be imposed on all licenses renewed June 1, 2023 and after in accordance with Town Bylaws.

To date, all submitted requests for dog licenses have been processed.  If you have not received your new license/tag in the mail, you may not have included a self-addressed, stamped envelope.  Please call the Town Clerk’s office to verify.

You may obtain your dog license either in-person, by mail, or online. Fees are: $5.00 for spay/neuter, and $15.00 for NON-spay/neuter. Licenses must be renewed before June 1st or a late fee of $30.00 will be added to the license fee.

IN-PERSON: Please present a rabies and spay/neuter certificate (if applicable), and payment in the form of cash or check.

ONLINE: Website address is: www.amherstma.gov/payments  or by calling our Animal Control Officer at 413-478-7084. Please note that you will need to email the rabies and spay/neuter certificates (if applicable) to: townclerk@amherstma.gov

BY MAIL: Please include: 1. rabies and spay/neuter certificate (if applicable), 2. a check payable to the “Town of Amherst” in the appropriate fee, and 3. a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Requests that don’t include the SASE will be held in the Town Clerk’s office for pick-up.

If licensing for the first time, you may obtain a license by mail or in person only.

If mailing your request, please provide:

1.  Your name, address, telephone number, dog’s name, breed, color(s) and age;

2.  A check payable to the Town of Amherst for the appropriate amount;

3.  Certificate of spaying or neutering, if applicable;

4.  Current rabies vaccination certificate;

5.  A self-addressed, stamped, standard sized envelope.

All rabies and spay/neuter certificates will be returned to you with the license and tag.  Our mailing address is:  Town Clerk’s Office, 4 Boltwood Avenue, Amherst, MA 01002.
