Notice of Public Hearing and Public Meeting: CDBG Advisory Committee on September 17, 2020, 7 PM

The Public Hearing will be conducted virtually at https://amherstma.zoom.us/j/92555623638 and will accommodate

PUBLIC HEARING

The Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) has designated the Town of Amherst a Mini-Entitlement Community that is eligible to apply for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds. CDBG funds support housing, community development projects, and social service activities benefiting low-and moderate-income citizens. In accordance with DHCD regulations, Amherst’s CDBG Advisory Committee will hold a Public Hearing on Thursday, September 17, 2020 to receive comments and suggestions from local residents regarding

Review ongoing activities from 2018 and 2019 grants

  1. ADA self evaluation and transition plan
  2. East Hadley Road multi-use path
  3. Pre-development funding for Valley CDC
  4. Amherst Survival Center Food Pantry
  5. Family Outreach of Amherst—Housing Stabilization
  6. The Literacy Project—Adult Education
  7. Center for New Americans—English classes
  8. Big Brothers Big Sisters—Youth Mentoring

Community priorities for the 2021 application process

  1. Social services
  2. Non-social services such as housing and public infrastructure
  3. Target areas neighborhoods where non-social services can take place

PUBLIC MEETING

  1. Announcements
  2. Discuss and review comments from public hearing
  3. Discuss schedule and process for 2021 grant application
  4. Discuss possible re-allocation of 2020 funds re COVID
  5. Update on CDBG CARES Act funding
