[ARCHIVED] Updated Information on the Coronavirus (COVID-19)

corona news item

The Amherst Health Department continues to monitor the global outbreak of COVID-19, also known as Coronavirus. We are in close communication with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH), the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), our local institutions of higher education and the Amherst Regional Public Schools (ARPS).

The current risk to Massachusetts residents is low.  At this time there is no "community-level spread" of the virus in Massachusetts. There is one confirmed case in Massachusetts, as of 3/3/2020 a presumptive positive case was identified, if confirmed by the CDC it will be the second case.

Planning for and preventing the spread of communicable disease is an ongoing process at the federal, state, county and local levels. Amherst is a part of the robust system of planning, communication, and response to disease outbreaks.
