The new Town Charter created a new Board that will oversee many licenses, including alcohol, that are issued by the Town.
The Board of License Commissioners will have the power to issue licenses for alcohol, common victuallers, innholders and other regulated activities for which the town has statutory and regulatory authority unless otherwise assigned to another Town office or officer.
The Board will consist of five voters appointed by the Town Manager and confirmed by the Town Council. No person while a member of the Board of License Commissioners shall have any financial interest, directly or indirectly, in the sale or distribution of alcoholic beverages, marijuana, or any regulated substance that may come under the purview of the Board of License Commissioners in any form.
The Board will be staffed by the Inspection Services Department. We estimate the Board will meet monthly and hold its public hearings and, perhaps, its meetings in the evenings.
