The Town Council has completed Town Manager Paul Bockelman’s annual performance evaluation, his third since starting in the position in August of 2016. He has received strong ratings across all evaluation categories: Fiscal Management; Long Range Planning; Relationship with the Select Board and Town Council; Staff and Personnel Relations; Community, Intergovernmental Relations, and Volunteer Committees, Boards, and Commissions; and Transition to and Implementation of the New Form of Government.

“Paul provides strong and innovative leadership to the Town of Amherst and has successfully guided the Town through the first nine months of our transition to the new form of government,” said Town Council President Lynn Griesemer. "We have offered Paul an extension of his contract through August 2023 and look forward to an exciting future for the Town.”

After receiving feedback from the public, including town committee members, staff, and all Town Councilors, the Town Council has approved a 2% cost of living adjustment and a 3% performance-based increase. This will increase Bockelman’s salary from $170,887 to $179,431.35 and be retroactive to the anniversary date of his contract, August 22.

Determination of the salary increase was agreed to in Executive Session August 26, 2019 and will be approved by formal vote in open session at the September 9, 2019 Town Council meeting.

“I appreciate the Council’s support and confidence,” Bockelman said.  “The change in government has presented many exciting opportunities and challenges.  The commitment by the Town Council and Town Staff is remarkable and I’m proud to be part of this team.”

The performance evaluation documents, including the Town Council members’ individual evaluation forms, are available on the Town website at www.amherstma.gov/tmeval
