[ARCHIVED] Gregory Wise Promoted to Police Sergeant

Chief Scott P. Livingstone is pleased to announce that Detective Gregory D. Wise of the Amherst Police Department was promoted to the rank of sergeant effective July 22, 2019. Sergeant Wise was promoted after an extensive selection process which included a written examination and interviews with Chief Scott P. Livingstone, Town Manager Paul Bockelman and Human Resources Director Evelyn Rivera-Riffenburg. This promotion will fill the position that was vacated with the promotion of Lieutenant Brian Daly. 

Sergeant Wise was appointed as a patrol officer with the Amherst Police Department on December 2, 2002. He was assigned to patrol duties until his reassignment to the detective bureau in August 2006. As a Detective, Wise obtained extensive specialized training in criminal and narcotics investigation. While assigned to the detective bureau he conducted criminal investigations of major incidents and crimes. 

During his tenure at the police department Sergeant Wise has been a member of the Warrant Entry Team, Sexual Assault Investigation Team, and Bicycle Patrol Unit. In addition, he has served as a Field Training Officer and Mobile Device Forensic Examiner. Sergeant Wise received both a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1999 and a master’s degree in education in 2002 from Springfield College, Springfield, MA. In 2008 he was awarded a master’s degree in criminal justice from Westfield State University, Westfield, MA. Sergeant Wise graduated in 2002 from the Massachusetts Police Corps Academy in South Weymouth, MA class of 01-02.
