[ARCHIVED] Changes to State Street

State St. Changes Map_News Item

The Amherst Department of Public Works is completing work this week on traffic and parking changes along State Street that will go in to effect on Tuesday, June 18th. On Tuesday, State St. from Sand Hill Road to the rail road trestle will become one way for vehicular traffic. East of the trestle, State Street will remain open to two-way traffic. There will also be changes to parking areas and posted parking restrictions. The traffic and parking changes will be enforced by the Amherst Police Department to ensure safety and compliance.

This effort is part of a larger plan to make State Street and the area around Puffer’s Pond safer for pedestrians, cyclists and vehicular traffic, while also allowing improved access for public safety vehicles in the case of emergency. You can learn more about the Puffer’s Pond 2020 Committee work, which crafted plans for the future of one of Amherst’s most beloved and heavily-used destinations, by clicking here.

Please plan your visits to this area and Puffer’s Pond accordingly. There are bike racks at both beaches with plans to add more bike racks soon. We also encourage the use of the PVTA bus line Route 33, click here for the schedule. The bus stop is located adjacent to the North Beach access, corner of Summer and Mill Streets.
