[ARCHIVED] Electrify Amherst! Call to Visual Artists- Extended

Public Art Utility Box Artist Kim Carlino for News

Electrify Amherst! The Electrical Box Makeover Project 2019 continues to increase the presence of public art in Amherst and the Amherst Center Cultural District by inviting artists to create unique and imaginative paintings on three designated utility boxes in downtown Amherst.

“Electrify Amherst! 2019 builds upon the success of our 2018 project and continues to be a great opportunity to bring additional public art into downtown Amherst. It has proven to be a great way for artists and the Amherst community to connect, and continues Amherst’s growth as a public art community,” said Amherst Public Art Commission member Amy Crawley.

This year, three selected artists will receive a stipend of $500 each. Artists can submit proposals for Electrify Amherst! The Electrical Box Makeover Project 2019 until the June 15th DEADLINE. The three selected artists will be determined by a 5-person jury that will consist of two members of the Amherst Public Art Commission, 1-2 downtown business owners, and 1-2 local artists.

Electrify Amherst! The Electrical Box Makeover Project 2019 builds upon the success of the Public Art Commission’s 2018 project which showcased original designs painted by local artists Jeff Wrench, Kim Carlino, and Vincent Frano. Their designs were inspired by Amherst’s literary history, organic imagery, and the State’s wildflowers, respectively. The three utility boxes that will be painted this year are located at the intersection of East Pleasant Street/Triangle Street, South Pleasant Street/Northampton Road, and South Pleasant Street near the Town Common.

Artists interested in submitting a proposal should visit www.amherstma.gov/electrifyamherst where they can access project guidelines, design templates and apply online.
