Chief Scott P. Livingstone is pleased to announce the promotion of Amherst Police Sergeant Brian Daly to the rank of Lieutenant effective March 25, 2019. Lieutenant Daly was promoted after an extensive selection process which included interviews with Chief Scott P. Livingstone, Town Manager Paul Bockelman and Director of Human Resources Evelyn Rivera-Riffenburg. This promotion will fill the position that was vacated with the promotion of Captain Gabriel Ting.
Lieutenant Daly was appointed as a patrol officer with the Amherst Police Department in April of 1997. He was assigned patrol duties and served as a field training and highway safety officer. During this time he was also a member of the department’s Firearms Licensing Unit.
Lieutenant Daly was promoted to the rank of sergeant on January 24, 2005 and was assigned as a patrol supervisor. In February 2016, he was reassigned as a supervisor in the detective bureau. During his career Lieutenant Daly has been a member of the Bicycle Patrol, Motorcycle and Crash Investigation Units. He is also served on the departments Crash Investigation and Sexual Assault Investigation Team. Lieutenant Daly is a trainer for the Municipal Police Training Committee and is also an academy instructor for the Western Massachusetts Municipal Police Training Committee Academy in Springfield, MA. He will be assigned to the night shift as an operations lieutenant.
Daly received his diploma from Springfield Central High School in 1987. He graduated in 1997 from the Massachusetts Criminal Justice Training Academy in Agawam, a member of the 28th Municipal Police Officer Class. In 1991 he was awarded a bachelor’s degree in business administration and in 1999 received an associate’s degree in criminal justice from Western New England College, Springfield, MA. He is currently pursuing his master’s degree in criminal justice.
Daly is the son of Thomas and Cynthia Daly of Springfield, Massachusetts. He currently resides in Westfield, MA with his wife Jill and son Sean.
