Absentee ballots for the September 4, 2018 State Primary and Town Preliminary are now available in the Town Clerk’s office. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
A voter may apply for an absentee ballot if unable to vote at their polling place on the day of the election due to: 1) absence from Amherst during the hours in which the polls are open, 2) physical disability which prevents going to the polling place or the inability to stand in line for long periods of time, or 3) religious belief.
Applications for absentee ballots must be made in writing and must include the voter’s name, voting address, voting precinct, the address to which the ballot should be mailed, contact information (phone number or email address), and the voter’s signature.
Family members who reside in the same household may apply for an absentee ballot on the voter’s behalf. The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot is 5:00 pm on Friday, August 31, 2018. If you do not intend to vote the ballot in the office of the Town Clerk, you must apply early enough to allow time for the ballot to be mailed to you and to be mailed back to the Town Clerk’s Office to be received by September 4, 2018.
