The Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) has drafted a
Complete Streets Policy for the Town of Amherst. The TAC would like the community's input, asfriends and neighbors, in creating this Town policy to implement Massachusetts'
Complete Streets program. We hope you willtake some time to look at this draft and let us know what you think. The TAC will be creating a final draft for
the Select Board's consideration at a public forum February 28th, 2018.
This draft of the policy meets all the criteria to beeligible for receiving funds as set out in the State's program and is in accord
with the Community Compact approved by the Select Board in April lastyear. It is intended to guide the design
of Amherst's transportation networks in the future.
Inpreparing this draft we used MassDOT's suggestions for organization and language and tested it against their scoring
rubric, as well as keeping in mind the unique sense andspirit of Amherst regarding transportation built on the history of decisions
taken at Town Meeting, policies adopted by Town committees, our own experienceand the research reported in the Amherst Transportation Plan.
