There are a variety of ways in which Town Meeting members and the public can learn about the articles for the Fall Special Town Meeting that begins on November 2, 2009.
The first 3 meetings will be videotaped and rebroadcast on ACTV Channel 17 in the next few weeks.
There is a Warrant Review on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 7:30 pm in the Middle School Auditorium sponsored by the League of Women Voters and the Town Meeting Coordinating Committee. This is a good opportunity to hear about the articles to be decided at Town Meeting and to ask questions. If you cannot attend, you can submit questions in advance via email to townmeeting@amherstma.gov .
There will be a Bus Tour of various places related to Town Meeting articles on Sunday, Oct. 18 from 2 to 4 pm. Meet in the Middle School parking lot by 2 pm on Sunday. This is usually a fun, informal experience to see parts of our community up close and learn how they are affected by the actions of Town Meeting. One of the stops this year will be at the Fire Department to see the new “Quint” apparatus.
On Tuesday Oct. 27 at 7:30 pm the Town Meeting Coordinating Committee will host an informational forum on “Phased Growth / Smart Growth” in the Town Room at Town Hall. Several panelists will share their knowledge and experiences to help us learn how the Smart Growth goals in our Master Plan can be implemented.
Starting this week we will have a series of Precinct Meetings throughout town for Town Meeting members and the public to learn about and discuss the articles before Town Meeting. Precinct Meetings will occur at the following times and places:
Thursday, Oct. 15, 7-9 pm, Wildwood School Cafeteria (Precinct 9)
Tuesday, Oct. 20, 7-9 pm, Crocker Farm School Library (Precinct 7 & 8)
Thursday, Oct. 22, 7-9 pm, Fort River School Cafeteria (Precinct 5 & 6)
Sunday, Oct. 25, 2-4 pm, Police Station Community Room ( Precinct 4 & 10)
Wednesday, Oct. 28, 7-9 pm, Marks Meadow School, Room 175 ( Precinct 1, 2, & 3)
The Warrant, Results, Attendance, Planning Board Reports and additional information will be posted on the Town website at http://www.amherstma.gov/townmeeting
Fall Special Town Meeting begins on Monday, November 2, 2009 at 7:30 pm in the Middle School Auditorium and will continue as needed on these additional evenings: November 4, 9, 16, 18, 23, 30 and December 2, 7, and 9.
