Absentee ballots for the September 16, 2008 State Primary are now available in the Town Clerk’s office. Office hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Thursday from 12:00 noon to 4:30 p.m.
An applicant must be unable to vote at their polling place on the day of the election due to: 1) absence from Amherst during the hours the polls are open, 2) physical disability which prevents going to the polling place, or 3) religious belief.
Applications for absentee ballots must be made in writing and must include the voter’s name, voting address, voting precinct, the address to which the ballot should be mailed and the voter’s signature.
Family members may apply for an absentee ballot on a voter’s behalf. The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot is noon the day before the election.
