[ARCHIVED] Improvements to the North Beach at Puffer's Pond.

Puffer's Pond

Amherst Conservation Department Land Manager Brad Bordewieck and Assistant Land Manager Chet Hall work to make improvements to the North Beach at Puffer’s Pond. As part of a $37,000 project, combining a federal Water Conservation Fund grant and an allocation from the Town’s capital budget, they are replacing deteriorating cribbing that has held the North Beach together for nearly two decades. Other planned site improvements include the installation of new fences adjacent to the Puffer’s Pond dam, an effort to deter visitors from accessing the cliff. Summer work crews will continue the cribbing work along the edges of the pond to establish more stable footing. Later this year, work will aim to bring compliance with the ADA by installing handicapped spaces and an accessible path to North Beach. Additional improvements will take place on the South Beach and a future goal of overall parking improvement.
