[ARCHIVED] Memorial Day Parade Ceremony Planned


Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony is planned for Monday, May 25, 2015. Parade participants will assemble beginning at 9 a.m.on the North Common, adjacent to Spring Street, departing promptly at 9:30 a.m.

The parade route will start at intersection of Spring Street, turning right onto North Pleasant St., bearing right onto East Pleasant St, and right again onto Triangle Street, then turning left onto the access road to the War Memorial Pool and Grounds for the ceremony.

Town Manager John P. Musante will serve as the Master of Ceremonies. Commanders of the VFW and American Legion will lead the Pledge of Allegiance, Read the Roll Call of Departed Comrades, perform the raising of colors, in addition to assisting members of the Amherst Select Board with laying of the wreaths. Hopkins Academy will perform the National Anthem and TAPS with Amherst-Pelham Regional High School Chorale providing a number of musical selections. Gun Salute to be performed by members of the American Legion.

The guest speaker is Justin Maynard, a service connected disabled veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom, a 2015 graduate of the University of Massachusetts. Further remarks to be offered by members of the Amherst Select Board and local legislators.
