Camino 101: An Introduction to the Camino de Santiago

Tuesday, December 6, 2022

NEW DATE! - Joe Curro will describe the history and experience of walking the Camino de Santiago, a collection of ancient pilgrim trails in Europe, all of which converge at the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela, Spain.

The Camino de Santiago is a collection of ancient pilgrim trails in Europe, all of which converge at the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, where the remains of the Apostle Saint James the Greater are believed to be safeguarded. The Camino tests mind, body, and spirit. It is a great multicultural adventure undertaken by hundreds of thousands of people every year.

In this talk, veteran pilgrim Joe Curro will describe the history and experience of walking the Camino and provide advice around logistics and preparation for those considering this journey. In 2019, Curro walked the Camino Francés with his daughter from St. Jean Pied de Port, France to Santiago and onward to Finisterre and Muxia on the Atlantic coast. Earlier this year, he walked from Porto, Portugal to Santiago along parts of the Senda Litoral, Portugués Central, and Variante Espiritual routes.

About the speaker:
Curro serves as co-coordinator of the Boston Chapter of American Pilgrims on the Camino and as a board member and lifetime member of the national organization. His responsibilities include oversight of 58 chapters around the country and work as a contributing editor to La Concha, American Pilgrims' digital magazine.

This is the third event in our Hit the Trail!: Adventures in Hiking series, made possible by the Friends of the Jones Libraries.
