Additional Steps Announced to Encourage Social Distancing

Parks and Facilities Square

Town Manager Paul Bockelman announced further restrictions on use of public facilities today, adding that the beaches at Puffer’s Pond will be closed effective Sunday, April 5th. Signs will be posted that will prohibit individuals or groups from settling or congregating on the North and South Beaches of Puffers Pond. Transitory pedestrian use (walking, jogging, biking, solitary fishing, etc.) will be permitted as long as recommended social distancing is observed. Police will patrol this area for compliance.

Please ensure that you are not part of a gathering that is larger than ten people. Police will respond to reports of any group gathering of more than ten people to help educate those present of the importance of social distancing.

In addition, as of March 29th, play structures, golf courses, basketball, and other courts, and bathrooms will remain closed until at least May 4th in alignment with Governor Baker’s order.

  • There is no organized sporting programs authorized to use the fields.
  • Users should practice the recommended social distancing and group numbers.
  • All play structures are closed (this includes those at the Schools) At this time, we cannot ensure the recommended cleanliness level of the structures.
  • All Comfort Stations will remain closed. At this time, the cleanliness of the facilities cannot be maintained to the level that is recommended
  • Due to reduced staffing levels please pack out your trash.

While the Town’s trails and rail-trail remain open and have seen increased usage, the Town recommends that you:

  • Stay within solitary or very small groups and avoid gatherings of ten or more people
  • Practice physical distancing of at least six feet between individuals;
  • Practice healthy personal hygiene, such as hand washing for at least 20 seconds; and
  • Stay home if ill, over 70, and/or part of a vulnerable population.

All parking enforcement will be suspended until further notice with the exception of violations of handicapped parking spaces, tow zones, and overnight restrictions during a snow emergency.
