(August 21, 2017) The Select Board has completed Town Manager Paul Bockelman’s annual performance evaluation, his first since being appointed to the position in August of 2016. He has received strong marks across all evaluation categories: Fiscal Management; Relationship with the Select Board; Long Range Planning; Staff and Personnel Relations; and Community, Intergovernmental Relations, and Volunteer Committees, Boards, and Commissions
“Paul has continued the tradition of strong and innovative administration of Town government in Amherst,” said Select Board Chair Douglas Slaughter. "We anticipate continued success for Paul, and we will work together to make the Amherst community the best it can be.”
After receiving positive public, staff, and Select Board reviews for his work and accomplishments during his first year, the Select Board, in conformance with the terms of the Manager’s contract regarding step and cost of living wage adjustments, has approved a 2 % cost of living adjustment plus the value of a 3% step increase that mirrors that given to other eligible non-union personnel. This will increase Bockelman’s salary from $155,000 to $162,750 and be retroactive to the anniversary date of his contract, August 22. There are no other changes to the terms of his contract.
Determination of the salary increase was agreed to in Executive Session August 21, 2017 and will be approved by formal vote in open session at the August 30, 2017 Select Board meeting.
“I appreciate the Board’s support and confidence,” Bockelman said. “I love living in and working for Amherst. And while we have many challenges ahead, we have a strong team of elected leaders and staff prepared to take them on. I thank the Board for its careful review of my work and constructive suggestions to improve my performance going forward.”
