Town Meeting Approves Funds for Modern Redesign of Groff Park

Earlier this week Town Meeting approved funding for major enhancements to Groff Park. Groff Park is enjoyed year round for organized sports, activities, classes, and gatherings. The demand and use of the park, combined with the age of some amenities, places pressure on the Town to maintain its safety and functionality. Areas and elements of the park are reaching their useful life and need replacement. The modernization project will address these issues while making the park more inviting to children and families.

The wading pool at Groff built in the 1960’s has reached its useful life.  Despite the best efforts of staff from DPW and LSSE the challenges to keep it running have become too great. Given continuing safety concerns, maintenance costs and leaks the Town Manager decided to remove the wader making way for the new design and construction process to begin. As always, the wading pool at Mill River will be opening in late June.

The design for the new improvements will respond to community concerns about not being too heavy handed or somehow impacting the wonderful appeal of the park.  The conceptual plans include a spray park, new playground and pavilion.

It is envisioned that with these improvements, Groff Park will be a 21st century park with fully accessible features and amenities that are fun and safe for all types and ages of users.

Look for more information on the design process in the coming weeks.
