Tax Work-Off Plan

Overview
Residents 60 years and older, who have an annual adjusted gross income of $36,531 or less, ($54,797 or less for a couple), work off in a Town Department up to $1000 in property taxes a year at a rate of $9 an hour. A maximum of 35 people may participate. Work must be completed by the end of November of each year.  

How to Participate
  • Fill out the Application for Participation and Confidential Financial Data Sheet. Submit the forms to: Maura Plante, Assistant Director/Social Worker, Senior Center 70 Boltwood Walk Amherst, MA 01002
  • Applications are available from Maura Plante at the Amherst Senior Center or by downloading from the Town website.
  • Financial eligibility reviewed by Maura Plante, Assistant Director/Social Worker of the Senior Center.
  • Applicant notified of acceptance and an initial interview is scheduled with Maura Plante to review available jobs and to set up departmental interviews.
  • Applicant interviews with the town department. If hired, applicant works at mutually agreed-upon schedule. If not hired, applicant returns to Maura Plante for a new departmental referral.
