Town of Amherst Earns Top Website Award! (February 20, 2014) Town Manager John Musante announced that Amherst was one of five communities to earn the Massachusetts Municipal Association’s annual municipal website award. Amherst was cited as a top municipal website for communities with a population range of 14,999 – 49,999. The MMA presented the award to Town Manager John Musante during the Municipal Award Ceremony at the MMA’s 2014 Annual Meeting and Trade Show at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston on January 25. This is the second year in a row that the Town of Amherst received the annual MMA website award. Read more (PDF).

  New! Recent IT Department Accomplishments:
  • February 2014 - Awarded the most number of technology Community Innovation Challenge Grants of any community state-wide totaling close to $250,000 in technology grant awards. More info
  • February 2014 - One of only five communities to receive a top spot in the annual Massachusetts Municipal Association website award. More info (PDF)
  • 2014 - Maintained only 5% total growth in annual budget over the past ten fiscal years: FY 05 $469,665 to FY 14 $494,188. FY 2014 Budget (PDF)  FY 2015 Budget (PDF)
  • January 2014 - Another significant growth year for unique daily visitors using the Town’s website; a 22% increase in daily users over last year. Stats (PDF)  
  • January 2014 - Through outreach efforts and a recent restoration of a free online payments option, the Town has realized an 18% increase in online payment transactions. The Anytime Self Service reached an all-time high of 25,885 unique daily visitors.
  • January 2014 - Developed an in-house custom solution to meet the many complex web-based needs of the Rental Permitting bylaw.
  • December 2013 - Implemented integrated paperless utility billing and paperless real estate billing options so residents and businesses can now opt to go green and receive bills by email.December 2013 - Further refinements to the online payments system, Anytime Self Service, to provide integrated bill lookup and payments.
  • October 2013 - Added Open Checkbook to “Open Government to the Max” webpage allowing citizens to view the Town checkbook online.
  • September 2013 - Implemented the shared Amherst-Pelham Assessing software database solution, saving Pelham and Amherst annual operating costs. More Info
  • August 2013 - Implemented centralized camera system in Jones Library.   
  • 2013 - Installed, maintained, and enhanced the fastest public downtown outdoor Wi-Fi network in Massachusetts.
  • 2013 - Implemented intradepartmental paperless workflow solutions including daily tasks like purchase orders through web-based staff dashboards.
